As you can tell from our name, we at Wes’ Tree Service Inc. are passionate about trees. We understand that it can be difficult to let go of a favourite tree on your property, but tree removal is sometimes necessary in order to protect your home or business. In this article, we’ll go over a few ways to tell when tree removal is something that needs to be done.
- Trunk Damage. One thing that we check when deciding whether to go forward with tree removal is the tree’s trunk. If there is extensive or severe trunk damage, the tree should generally be removed. This damage can take a number of forms, including vertical cracks, seams, and dead branch stubs, all of which point to internal decay. On the other hand, if the damage occurs in less than 25% of the trunk’s total area, then it’s possible that the wound could heal with no lasting harm.
- Hollow Trunk. Another factor typically makes tree removal necessary is if the tree is hollow on the inside. Unlike with animals, whose essential organs are all on the inside, the life support tissue of trees is located near the surface and bark. This means that a tree can stay alive for years while the interior wood gradually rots away. If a tree on your property has become hollow, we advise that you have it removed to ensure that it does not fall on your home or business.
- Placement. A third factor that we consider when it comes to tree removal is where the tree is located relative to any structures on your property, and how large the tree and its root system are likely to grow. If trees grow too close to your home or business, they can do significant damage to your infrastructure–for example, spreading branches can break your windows, and growing roots can damage underground pipes. To save your building, it’s sometimes necessary to remove a tree.
